¿A menos pelo más potencia sexual?
Muchos mitos existen en relación con dicha cuestión. Y contradictorios entre sí. Desde el mito de Sansón, quien al perder su cabello perdía su potencia física, hasta la creencia, casi generalizada, de que cuanto menos cabello, "más macho se es".
Ciertamente, la larga cabellera se ha asociado desde tiempos inmemoriales, a la juventud, a lo salvaje, a lo indomable. Ha sido santo y seña de la música heavy (todos recordamos videoclips de canciones de grupos de este movimiento, con sexo más o menos explícito, chicas despampanantes y muy escotadas y gestos lascivos). También recordamos las largas cabelleras de los hippies ("Haz el amor, y no la guerra", que diría John Lennon) y su promiscuidad sexual...
Pero tenemos la versión opuesta en aquellos que sospechan que la ausencia de pelo en el cuero cabelludo puede significar una mayor capacidad sexual.
Aportaremos una serie de datos médicos, científicos, para que cada uno extraiga sus conclusiones:
- El deseo sexual masculino se debe, mayoritariamente, a los andrógenos (hormonas masculinas). También tiene importancia el componente psicológico, sin duda. Pero pensemos que las personas castradas (anatómica o químicamente) no muestran tal deseo. Por lo tanto, casi podemos aseverar que, sin hormonas masculinas, el hombre no sentiría deseo sexual (o éste sería mucho menos intenso).
- La alopecia masculina tiene, fundamentalmente, un solo tratamiento eficaz. Los demás, como veíamos en el artículo que hicimos al respecto, apenas tienen utilidad demostrada por estudios. Este tratamiento, que cabe indicar aquí que no está financiado por la Seguridad Social en nuestro país, es la finasterida, molécula cuya principal acción consiste en evitar que la testosterona pase a dihidrotestosterona (mucho más potente como andrógeno). Es decir, que lo más eficaz para evitar la caída de cabello es disminuir el efecto de los andrógenos. De lo que podemos deducir que, cuanto más cabello, menos andrógenos se le suponen al hombre (coger con pinzas). Y, por tanto, a menos andrógenos, como veíamos...
- Y sin embargo, ¿cuándo es el momento en que tenemos más cabello en el cuerpo sino durante nuestros años mozos? ¿Y en qué época de la vida nuestra capacidad sexual es mayor?

Abercrombie & Fitch is facing new lawsuits alleging discrimination, this time against people with disabilities, according to lawsuits filed by a national civil-rights group and a Colorado-based organization.
The suits charge that customers in wheelchairs have trouble getting into the stores, particularly Abercrombie's J.M. Hollister stores; that sales counters are too high; and that the stores' interiors are difficult for the disabled to maneuver.
The suits were filed against the New Albany-based company late last year in Colorado and Maryland by the Equal Rights Center, a national civil-rights organization, and the Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition, an advocacy group. An Abercrombie & Fitch spokesman said it is "not the company's policy to speak on pending litigations." One of the issues, in the view of the Equal Rights Center, is Hollister stores' beach-houselike front-porch entrance, which includes stairs. Customers who use wheelchairs are forced to use a door located away from the main entrance, center officials said.
"Younger kids with disabilities have to enter through a separate door, and it marginalizes them," said Jennifer Wolfsheimer, the Equal Right Center's disability-rights program manager. "When you're that age, you don't want to stick out any more than you have to."
Another group notes that not all Hollister stores have front stairs.
"I know Hollister sees this (front steps) as a signature of its stores," said E. Elaine Gardner, director of the disability-rights project for the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. "But they don't have steps in every one of their stores … and they do just fine. That tells us a lot. They could design it without the steps."
The lawsuits ask that the stores comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Colorado Civil Rights Act.
